Distant Memory

The memory stirred

Threads of time

That wove your body

Into a knot of brevity

What had been hidden

When you were born

And when you walked

And when you wandered the forest

You could feel the spirits of animals

Haunted out by humans

Along the edges

Like vines that hung ominously

Still in the songs of birds

That you observed with nostalgia

Absent the memory
